Add beneficiaries and share invites

Generate a secure Option C invite link and understand invite status changes.

Add beneficiaries and share invites

Lastkey uses a secure invite flow where the owner shares the link directly. The link includes a decryption key in the URL fragment, which never reaches the server.

Create an invite

  1. Open a vault and go to Beneficiaries.
  2. Add the person's name (email is optional and for your reference).
  3. Copy the invite link and share it via your preferred channel.

What the beneficiary sees

When they open the link, they will:

  1. Create or sign in to their Lastkey account.
  2. Accept their beneficiary role.
  3. See a confirmation that they are ready if a release occurs.

They will not be able to see your vault content unless a release is triggered.

Invite states

  • Invited: link created, not accepted yet.
  • Accepted: the beneficiary has claimed the invite.
  • Revoked: you invalidated the invite (they can no longer claim it).

Best practices

  • Share invite links via a channel you trust (phone call + text works well).
  • Revoke and reissue if a link is exposed or unused for too long.
  • Keep your beneficiary list up to date as relationships change.
