Getting started with Lastkey

If you only have five minutes, aim for three things: create your vault, add one beneficiary, and add your "Read this first" note. Everything else can come later.

1) Create your first vault

  • In the dashboard, use New vault in the sidebar (or the Chat flow) to start.
  • Choose a check-in interval that feels realistic for your life.
  • Confirm the 3-strike reminder sequence before any release can happen.

2) Set your check-in schedule

Your schedule controls when reminders fire if you miss a check-in.

  • Update it anytime in Settings -> Check-in schedule.
  • You can check in early; the timer resets on each check-in.

3) Add a beneficiary

Beneficiaries can only access your vault after a release.

  • Add a beneficiary and copy the invite link.
  • Share the link with them directly (Lastkey does not email it for you).
  • Once they accept, their status changes from Invited to Accepted.

4) Add essentials (start with the pinned note)

Your first item should be a short "Read this first" note:

  • What you want them to do first
  • Who to contact
  • Where to find key accounts or documents

Then add a few core items like password manager instructions, insurance info, or crypto recovery details.

5) Do your first check-in

On the dashboard, use Safety check-in to confirm you're active. This resets the timer for all vaults.
